About StopCop.CityFact-Checking Policy
How we verify names, numbers, quotes and claims before a story reaches readers.
Effective October 2026
Every article on StopCop.City goes through a verification process before publication. The more consequential the claim, the higher the bar.
What we check
NumbersPay rates, budgets, contract values, troop levels and statistics are checked against the original document or dataset.
Names and titlesNames, ranks, units, agencies and official titles are confirmed against official sources.
QuotesQuotes are checked against recordings, transcripts or official statements.
Technical detailsWeapon ranges, specifications and program milestones are checked against official program documents or multiple credible sources.
Our process
- The writer documents the source for each factual claim and links it in the article where possible.
- An editor reviews the sourcing and challenges claims that are not supported.
- Claims from interested parties, such as contractors, agencies or advocacy groups, are attributed and, where possible, independently verified.
- Where official figures conflict, we report the range and explain the difference.
- Headlines and image captions are checked as carefully as the body text.
Preferred sources
We give the most weight to primary sources: official government documents, budget materials, court records, peer-reviewed research and on-the-record statements. We treat social media posts, unverified videos and anonymous claims with caution and label them clearly when used.
When we get it wrong
If a fact in one of our stories is wrong, we correct it and say so. See our Corrections Policy or email contact@stopcop.city.
