How a story gets made

  • Pitch and research. Reporters identify a development and gather primary documents, data and expert sources.
  • Writing. Stories are written to explain the facts clearly, with sources linked in the text.
  • Editing and fact-check. An editor reviews every article for accuracy, fairness, sourcing and clarity before publication, following our Fact-Checking Policy.
  • Updates. Developing stories are updated as new information emerges, and errors are corrected under our Corrections Policy.
